A sacred dreaming ally to enhance lucidity, connect with ancestors, and deepen visionary states.
Silene capensis, also known as African Dream Root or Ubulawu, is a revered plant among the Xhosa people of South Africa, traditionally used to induce lucid, vivid, and prophetic dreams. In Xhosa cosmology, dreams are not just symbols — they are messages from the ancestors, and this plant is one of the sacred tools used to receive them.
African Dream Root is consumed to open the dreaming doors, support vision, and enhance one’s capacity to receive guidance through the veil of sleep. It is often used ceremonially and ritually, and holds deep spiritual significance within the cultural traditions that honour it.
This is traditionally taken in the morning on an empty stomach, allowing the body to integrate its active constituents throughout the day. Its effects are gentle, cumulative, and may increase with continued use and intentional dreaming practice.
