In local languages it is called laguni by the Waguni people and Kamtirrikani by the Tiwi people. The name Callitris comes from the Greek calli, meaning beautiful — a fitting tribute to the tree’s majestic presence. It grows along the Top End of Australia, from the Kimberley across Arnhem Land to Northern Queensland, living for up to 200 years. Its aromatic timber is both hardy and termite-resistant, and its resinous oils are traditionally used as an analgesic, body wash, insect repellent, and pain-reliever through topical and aromatic applications.
